A Witch's Guide to Fake Dating a Demon Review

My Initial Thoughts

I first saw this book at Half Price Bookstore in OKC and hesitated on buying it. The cover initially didn't look promising. Growing up, we are taught to "Never judge a book by its cover," but as readers, is it not one of the first things we do to determine if we want to check the synopsis? Now, as I have said, I originally slept on this book. Somewhere in May, specifically on May 11th, my best friend and I went to the library to find a book (or in my case...books...) to read. As I was browsing the app, I ended up typing the book into the search since I couldn't get it out of my mind for some reason. I was overjoyed when the library had it.

I ended up checking it out with at least five other books. I ended up DNFing those other books, due to overwhelming myself... I started reading A Witch's Guide to Fake Dating a Demon immediately. I was hooked on the first page. I could not put down the book. When I tell you that this book had me laughing my ass off, just know, I mean it. I ended up giving the book 5 stars on Goodreads, but truthfully, I'd give it a 4.5. I enjoyed the book that much. I finished the book on May 11th, the same day that I checked it out, and did my review on the 15th because I thought it deserved a review.

About the book

This book follows Muriel, a promising young witch who has been prophesied to be extraordinary. Since she was prophesied, she has grown up with her mother's expectations of who she should be and how her magic should work. The book also follows the demon, Ozroth, aka Oz. Oz is a known legend among the other demons, but due to a bargain gone wrong, he has suffered a blow to his reputation.  During an accident in her magic, Muriel summons Oz by mistake, and the two begin to fake date while working out a bargain.

My Goodreads review

When I typed up my review on May 15th, I had never done a book review before, unless of course you count those book reports we had to do in school.  It was short, and I tried to avoid spoilers, similar to what I'm doing now. I have gone back and updated it slightly, mostly to fix my spelling mistakes and put the link to this blog in there. I had put that I was giving this book 4.5 stars and that it made me feel a plethora of emotions. I empathized with Muriel, as I have my own issues and insecurities. My favorite thing about the book was the banter between Oz and Muriel. It never failed to make me laugh or smile.

My final thoughts

I regret not buying the book when I had the chance. I do plan to get the book for my shelf because I am in love with this book and plan to finish the trilogy. I highly recommend that people give this book a read. I can't guarantee that everyone will enjoy it, but it will definitely bring a smile to your face should you choose to join the endeavor. I think one of my favorite aspects of it is the spice in it, not just the humor. Anyone who knows me will know that the spice is one of my favorites, due to the things I prefer to read. The humor is my top favorite, the banter, and the amount of gentleness and respect that is shown. It was a great palette cleanser. I was bawling at the end, which worried my boyfriend at the time I finished the book. Go grab the book from your store or library and give it a go.
